Identity with National Spirit Reflection

About the project

Cybersecurity is a growing concern, and promoting awareness is crucial in today’s digital world. As a designer intern, I had the opportunity to contribute to a significant cybersecurity event in Portugal. The Portuguese National Cybersecurity Center tasked me with creating the visual identity for the annual Capture the Flag event, a popular competition among young people in Portugal and Europe.

The project presented a unique challenge, as the visual identity needed to effectively promote cybersecurity, and resonate with a young audience. I focused on creating a design that was both visually appealing and informative, reflecting the importance of cybersecurity in today’s digital age.

I am proud to have been part of this project and to have seen my designs successfully implemented in both digital and physical formats.

Logo concept

The main demand was for the logo to incorporate national elements. I started to search for logos from national events and the national flag elements.

I decided that:

The shield would be an element present – is national element and a symbol of security;
The “quinas” – are also characteristic and identify Portugal in many other national logos;
Electronic conductors – integrating the technology concept;
Armillary sphere – a national symbol that also emphasizes the idea of the world.

What was created

After creating the logo, it was necessary to develop the visual identity. The main goal was to create a simple and consistent brand.

The graphics created were:

Cyber Security Challenge and Capture the Flag logo;
Visual Identity Manual with the respective stationery and;
Template for social media.

In the end, a simple and modern brand was created while incorporating historical national symbols.

Nowadays, the identity is still applied to this national event.
